The crab nebula and the complex domain
Jonathan Tennenbaum
In his presentation at the Schiller Institute Summer
Academy in Frankfurt on Aug. 17, Jonathan Tennenbaum choose the
astronomical anomaly of the Crab Nebula as a means to demonstrate
once again the difference between animals and human beings.
Animals can't even see the Crab Nebula, because this requires the
construnction of instruments like telescopes. Human beings are
furthermore deliberately looking for anomalies - like the Crab
Nebula - something no animal would ever do. And building
telecopes is based on man's ability to conquer new physical
principles and thereby permanently increasing his power over the
universe.
